Sofa re-upholstery - Nahkur OÜ Võru

What we do with soft furniture

Soft furniture re-upholstery gives an old sofa, armchair or corner sofa a new life - often better than it was when new. Older furniture typically has a stronger frame and better construction than today's mass-produced pieces. Re-upholstery combines the best of both: old frame, new cover.

Soft furniture jobs you can order

  • Sofa cover replacement - full or partial. You choose the fabric or leather; we strip the old cover, repair foam where needed, sew the new cover and fit it.
  • Armchair upholstery - same process at smaller scale. Suits modern armchairs as well as antiques.
  • Corner sofa upholstery - larger projects. Size has a major impact on price and timeline.
  • Foam refresh - if the seat has sunk or feels hard, we replace the foam (40 or 50 kg/m³).
  • Spring system restoration - tightening, repair, replacement where needed.
  • Frame repair - if the frame is loose or broken, we partner with a woodworker.
  • Mattress cover replacement - removable cover or full mattress re-cover.
  • Cushion covers - new covers for sofa cushions or other home cushions.

When is it worth re-upholstering an old sofa?

Re-upholstery makes economic sense when the furniture has:

  • A solid frame (timber, not cheap chipboard) - check the sofa doesn't creak or wobble.
  • Working spring system - springs should hold, not collapse.
  • Sentimental or antique value - family furniture, grandmother's sofa, Soviet-era quality set.
  • The right size and shape - the furniture fits your room and you like the style.

An old Estonian factory-made sofa (1980–2000) is often a better investment than a similarly priced new IKEA set. Re-upholstery typically costs 30–60% of the price of new furniture, with a better end result because the frame and construction have already proven themselves.

How the work runs - 5 steps

  1. Photo + enquiry. Send a few photos of the sofa by email or message. Describe the overall condition (any holes, sagging springs, frame cracks).
  2. Estimate. We reply with an indicative price within a few hours or days. The final price is set after inspection.
  3. Transport & inspection. Bring the sofa to Võru - yourself or with a transport partner. Together we review the condition, pick materials, agree the timeline and final price.
  4. The work (2–3 weeks). We strip the old cover, repair foam and springs as needed, sew the new cover, fit it. Photos sent at key milestones.
  5. Handover. Sofa back to you. Care instructions for the chosen material included.

Material selection

Soft furniture suits a wide range of materials:

  • Velvet - luxurious, many tones, sensitive to stains but beautiful.
  • Linen - natural, breathable, ages well.
  • Bouclé - soft, textured, contemporary.
  • Real leather - longest life (20+ years), worth it for sentimental pieces.
  • Quality synthetic leather (PU) - more practical for families with children or pets.
  • Technical upholstery fabric - most practical, easy to clean, 10+ years.

See the range on our materials page or visit in person.

Frequently asked questions - soft furniture

How much does sofa re-upholstery cost?

A 3-seater sofa starts from €600, 2-seater from €450, corner sofa from €900 (excl. VAT). The final price depends on size, choice of fabric or leather, and whether foam needs replacing. A free estimate is provided after inspection.

Can you save my old sofa?

In most cases yes. If the frame is sound, the springs work and the foam is repairable, a new cover gives the sofa a second life. Restoration typically costs 30–60% of an equivalent new sofa, but the old one has a stronger frame and better build quality than today's cheap mass-produced furniture.

How long does soft furniture re-upholstery take?

A typical sofa cover replacement takes 2–3 weeks. Larger projects (corner sofa + foam + frame repair) up to 4 weeks. The schedule is agreed before work starts.

Do I bring the sofa to Võru or do you collect it?

Smaller furniture (armchair, small sofa) you can bring yourself. For a large sofa or corner sofa we can arrange a transport partner who will bring the furniture to Võru and back. Transport price depends on distance and size.

Can I choose the fabric or leather myself?

Yes. Visit Räpina mnt 12, Võru - we keep a wide range of upholstery fabrics (velvet, linen, bouclé), real leather and synthetic leather. You can see, touch, compare.

Is it worth re-upholstering an old sofa or buying new?

Depends. If you have a quality-frame older sofa (Estonian factory-made 1980–2000), re-upholstery is almost always the better choice. If the sofa is a cheap mass-produced item from the last 10 years, buying new may be simpler. We help you decide before you choose.

Do you also restore grandmother's antique soft furniture?

Yes. Antique furniture restoration is a separate service - we preserve the original style and use period-appropriate techniques.
